“I've been using 4099 Instrument Microphones for many years, especially on cello and double bass. I really like them because they are so small, light and easy to install. They come with a fabulous range of accessories and are not invasive, even on small instruments such as violins. In terms of sound, they bring out the true nature of an acoustic instrument and deliver the deep, full-bodied, true low end bass that you expect to hear."

I’d go so far as to say that it is a true Swiss Army knife (Is there a Danish Army knife?) of pro audio, the thought being that if a mic is at first accurate in the capture of a given acoustic source, it should perform equally well in a number of circumstances.

There is no single mic model that could outperform the 4099 at all positions, especially if we consider the 4099 Series’ distinct advantages at exacting placement, diminished leakage and freedom of movement for the performers.

10 points on close miking for live performances

We apply close-miking to obtain the highest possible sound pressure level (SPL) of the sound source – and the lowest SPL of all other nearby or distant sources. Close-miking can provide us with the possibility of a cleaner mix. Furthermore, close-miking can reduce the risk of acoustical feedback when used with public address systems (PA) as less gain of the microphone is needed being so close.
